PRESS RELEASE

Himes for Congress

Contact: Taylor Lavender, (203) 987-3333 ext. 83

In a fundraising email tastelessly titled "Money Bomb," Dan Debicella brought our often thoughtful politics deep into the gutter by stepping into provocative and inappropriate territory: the politicization of the threat of terrorists and our national security.

Pushing past the boundaries of other Bush-era attacks seen across the country, Mr. Debicella tries to raise money for his campaign by conjuring fear through desperate lies about Congressman Himes' record on foreign policy - all in the service of, as he says, hitting his fundraising targets. Indeed, the name "Money Bomb" is all you need to know about Dan Debicella's priorities.

His attacks could not be further from the truth. Congressman Himes was a first-hand witness to the tragedy of 9/11 and recognizes the key dangers faced in Southwest Connecticut. As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congressman Himes works tirelessly on legislation to keep our nation safe.  Just last week Himes helped pass a bill out of the Homeland Security Committee that enhances our ability to prevent, respond to, and recover from an attack made with a weapon of mass destruction. He has personally traveled to Afghanistan to better understand the sources of terrorism.

Congressman Himes is also widely acknowledged as a leader in Congress supporting the US-Israel relationship, aid to Israel, and the right of Israel to defend itself. For a recent letter to the editor discussing this, please click here.

Although the Congressional race has not really begun, Dan Debicella has dragged it deep into the gutter with his "Money Bomb". Challenging an opponent's loyalty to his country is obscene under any circumstances, doubly so when it is in the service of raising campaign funds.

"Dan Debicella's heated language and blatant distortions are crowding out the possibility of a thoughtful discussion of the crucial issues before us," said Himes for Congress Campaign Manager Mark Henson. "No responsible member of Congress would ever resort to these tactics. Dan Debicella should apologize immediately to Congressman Himes and to the people of the 4th District, and promise never to go the way of "Money Bomb" again."
